Episode 84 | What Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s as Secretary of HHS Means for Your Health from a Holistic Oncologist

Free Guide – 3 Things You Need to Know About Cancer:  https://www.katiedeming.com/cancer-101/

Is the entire American healthcare system designed to keep you sick instead of making you well?

After two decades as a radiation oncologist, Dr. Katie Deming noticed something troubling – despite advanced treatments and massive spending, her patients weren't getting better. Now she shares her perspective on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s appointment as Secretary of Health and Human Services and what it could mean for your health.

America spends $4.5 trillion yearly on healthcare, yet life expectancy is declining. Cancer rates are skyrocketing, especially in young people, while chronic diseases reach epidemic levels. Dr. Deming shares why we need leadership willing to examine uncomfortable truths about what's really making Americans sick.

Key Takeaways:
• The Make America Healthy Again Commission
• Why cancer rates have increased
• The toxins in our food and water supply affecting your health
• Why many effective natural treatments remain unknown to most doctors
• The role of microplastics and EMFs in chronic disease

Drawing from her experience in both conventional and holistic medicine, Dr. Deming outlines why addressing toxicity, nutrition, and emotional wellbeing could be more powerful than many conventional treatments.

Dr. Deming talks about the surprising discoveries that changed how she views illness and healing. And why many doctors feel unable to speak openly about certain natural healing approaches, despite seeing their effectiveness.

She examines how European healthcare systems handle many of these issues differently, with stricter regulations on food additives and environmental toxins, and what we can learn from their approach.

Listen and learn about promising changes that could reshape how we approach health in America.

[00:00:00] Dr. Katie Deming: Hello, and welcome back to the Born to Heal podcast. I'm your host, Dr. Katie Deming. And on today's episode, I would like to talk about the recent confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the secretary for health and human services in the United States. And if you've been listening to this podcast for the past year, you know that I left Western medicine in 2022 because.[00:00:30] Dr. Katie Deming: I sensed that there was something really wrong, both as a radiation oncologist and also as a healthcare leader within cancer care. I had this sense since 2019 that something was really broken with the system. But then after a shared death experience in 2020. I realized that I had to leave, that there was something that was absolutely wrong.

[00:00:54] Dr. Katie Deming: My patients weren't getting better. We were getting sicker as a society [00:01:00] and rates of cancer were just increasing dramatically in a way that Made me feel sick, really looking at this problem, you know, and I talk about the parable of the river and how the story goes something like this, that there was a village perched along the river.

[00:01:20] Dr. Katie Deming: And one day the villagers noted. One person floating in the river, drowning, and so the villagers sent someone out to rescue that person. And then the next day they noticed two people. So they sent two people out to rescue the people who are drowning in the river. And then the next day there were four and then there were eight.

[00:01:41] Dr. Katie Deming: 16 and so on and so on, and that they were doubling the numbers of people who are drowning in the river were doubling every day. And the villagers organized themselves and they created elaborate rescue systems to rescue all of the people who were drowning in the river. And the village [00:02:00] elders praise the villagers for doing such an amazing job.

[00:02:04] Dr. Katie Deming: And I describe how when I first heard this parable, I think it was like 2017, 2018, I just was struck at how this was Western medicine, that we are the glorified rescue workers on the river pulling these people out who are drowning in the river. But we had no idea. So why are so many of them falling in and why is it increasing?

[00:02:29] Dr. Katie Deming: Why are more and more people getting sick? And by the way, when we pull these people out of the river and we put them onto dry land, how do I know that they're not going to get sick again? And as an oncologist and as a healthcare leader who is in charge of looking at end to end cancer care for people with cancer and also looking at cancer prevention.

[00:02:52] Dr. Katie Deming: It terrified me. Like, how can we just be doing this work blindly and pulling people out and having no idea why [00:03:00] this problem is getting worse? And so with RFK coming on the scene, I want to highlight where we're at today. Like, where are we at with healthcare in the United States? And what are some of the things that he's promising?

[00:03:15] Dr. Katie Deming: And is this a good thing? Is this something that I am excited to be see happening? Or is this something that I'm fearful about what RFK is going to do? And I want to just give my perspective. And so Some of the things that I want to highlight, because I talk about cancer on this podcast all of the time, and some of the statistics that I've shared with you already is that cancer incidence has increased dramatically over the past 100 years.

[00:03:44] Dr. Katie Deming: So about 100 years ago, the risk of cancer in your lifetime was 1 in 33. So one in 33 people would get cancer in their lifetime. And today it is one in two people. And what is the [00:04:00] most alarming is the incidence of cancer among young people is rising by one to 2 percent per year. And this is something that I've talked about on this podcast.

[00:04:10] Dr. Katie Deming: I've talked about the rising incidence of cancer, but I want to talk about some of the other things that are indicators about the current state of health in the United States. So America has the worst health outcomes among any high income country, despite spending the most on health care. We spend 4. 5 trillion per year on health care in the U.

[00:04:36] Dr. Katie Deming: S., and the life expectancy is actually decreasing. Six out of ten adults have at least one chronic disease, and two out of ten have two or more chronic diseases. Over 70 percent of adults And 33 percent of Children are overweight or obese. Diabetes is 10 times more prevalent than it was in the [00:05:00] 1960s.

[00:05:01] Dr. Katie Deming: Alzheimer's has doubled since the 1980s. Asthma has doubled in the from over the past 100 years and cancer, as we've talked about, is just exponentially rising. And so at Secretary Kennedy's address to HHS staff on February 18th, he talked about the Maha Commission. So this is the Make America Healthy Again Commission, which is tasked with studying.

[00:05:30] Dr. Katie Deming: The decline in American health. Why is this happening? Why is our health declining? Why are we spending so much on health care and getting sicker as a society? And the things that he talked about. that previously have really been taboo to talk about related to health where he wanted to study the causes of chronic disease, including [00:06:00] childhood vaccine schedule.

[00:06:01] Dr. Katie Deming: Do we need to be giving so many vaccines to our children? Not saying anti vax, but let's look at the schedule. Let's look at what's being given to study how Children are doing with their current schedule. What is the incidence? You know, there's this huge incidence of autism rise and autism. And who knows?

[00:06:23] Dr. Katie Deming: It's multifactorial for sure. But part of that is looking at the vaccine schedule. And I think We want leaders who are going to say, Let's look at the science. Let's just look at this. This is as a physician, as a scientist. I want to know what the data shows. And right now it's not clear with the vaccine schedule.

[00:06:45] Dr. Katie Deming: He talked about electromagnetic radiation. And this is something that I talked to you guys about that electromagnetic radiation Can make us sick. And this is something that our health care leaders have not been willing to talk about. And he's talking [00:07:00] about it. Talked about glyphosate. He talked about other pesticides.

[00:07:04] Dr. Katie Deming: We know that 99 percent of our food is covered in glyphosate and other toxic pesticides. That is terrifying, but we have not had leaders who are willing to step up and say that because of the industries that support these pesticides and how powerful they are. He also talked about ultra processed foods, talked about artificial food additives.

[00:07:31] Dr. Katie Deming: SSRIs and other psychiatric drugs and the risks associated with those, especially for young people, talked about PFAs and PFOAs, as well as microplastics, and you guys have heard me talk about microplastics in our water, like something as simple as water. Our water is full of microplastics and actually so many other things are full of microplastics too, but for me to hear [00:08:00] someone who is in an authority position within government to say these words out loud, to be talking about these things that I have been saying to you guys since I left Western Medicine.

[00:08:12] Dr. Katie Deming: Is refreshing for me. It's it's exciting for me. I think that we are in a new place in history where we are going to start to see things revealed about why is that? Why? What is making us? So sick as a society and what I liked about the things that he said was that, you know, he wants to have a willingness to subject the science or all of these questions to unbiased science like that is his template of looking at.

[00:08:48] Dr. Katie Deming: The actual science without the biases. And he talked about you having protocols for studies that are agreed upon in advance and that we don't stop halfway [00:09:00] through and alter the outcomes of the studies when we start to see results that are inconvenient, which is what has happened with a lot of the studies when the results starts to come out and is inconvenient for industry.

[00:09:14] Dr. Katie Deming: Oftentimes, then they shift the rules and so talked about making it standard, the protocols that for by which we study these questions. And he also talked about deep politicizing these issues and having a renewed search for existential truth without political impediments and preconceptions. And so, from my perspective.

[00:09:36] Dr. Katie Deming: I am excited to see this, and I don't care what your political leanings are, you know, for me, for my whole life, I had voted Democrat, and I'm not going to talk about this election, and you can think whatever you want about Trump, this,

[00:09:52] Dr. Katie Deming: this New conversation that is happening around health care and the health of [00:10:00] our society is really what we need right now, because if we continued on the path that we were on. It would just get worse. We were just seeing it. People are getting sicker and sicker and sicker. And for me, this is exciting to be having these conversations.

[00:10:18] Dr. Katie Deming: And frankly, now I am paying attention. And so I will share with you as I see things that are. Demonstrating some of the things that I had been concerned about and that I had been seeing as we discover the science, I will be sharing that with you because I think it's important for you to know. I've been bringing experts on this show to teach you the things that I said I should have been taught in medical school.

[00:10:43] Dr. Katie Deming: I was not taught so many things. I had zero classes on nutrition and now I understand that nutrition and is like 80 percent of the problem with illness. Like it is [00:11:00] foundational, and I know there are a lot of people who eat right and still get sick, but then that comes down to why the foods that we're eating are toxified.

[00:11:10] Dr. Katie Deming: Glyphosate is in everything. There are food additives that are made, make us sick. And if we just go across the Atlantic to Europe. They have much stricter rules about what is allowed in their foods and additives and products and the pesticides. We allow things here in the United States and the FDA has actually no idea about the chemicals that are in the products that are the foods that we eat and also the products that we use.

[00:11:43] Dr. Katie Deming: The lack of oversight is actually shocking. And I think that this as this comes out is going to be very eye opening for people. And the other reason why I'm excited about this is that, you know, I've been very forthcoming about I knew [00:12:00] something was wrong. I had to leave the system. And then it wasn't until I left the system that I started to see.

[00:12:08] Dr. Katie Deming: What was really going on and that really, I see the problem is that we are toxified. We have too much toxicity in our bodies and we are not getting nourished in the ways that we are designed to be nourished and I've been saying that, but I haven't been speaking my full truth because to be honest, I was afraid.

[00:12:29] Dr. Katie Deming: I was told as a medical doctor who has 20 years experience in oncology for you to stand up and to start to say that the system is really broken and that you can cure yourself with, let's just say, water fasting, because that's one of the things that's been like a complete eye opener in my practice that you can heal cancer by the day.

[00:12:53] Dr. Katie Deming: Thank you. Water fasting by drinking water that to me is just like insane, but actually there are a lot of [00:13:00] powers that be Who don't want you to know that they don't want you to know that you can heal cancer By detoxing your body and then giving it the nourishment that it needs and resetting your microbiome like simple stuff Or that emotions are related to illness and that healing that actually can make you better.

[00:13:25] Dr. Katie Deming: And why, like, why don't people want you to know that? Like, why don't they want you to know that let's take repurposed drugs. So some of these really cheap drugs also can have an impact on cancer. And the reason why is because there is no money to be made. But as you guys know, I'm not here to make money.

[00:13:45] Dr. Katie Deming: I'm here to help you heal. I'm here to help people figure out the actual problem and solve it, not by putting. Toxic drugs that are designed by the people who don't want you to know how to get [00:14:00] healed, you know, not using those things to try and make it better because those don't solve the problem.

[00:14:06] Dr. Katie Deming: Actually, we need to get rid of all of those toxins out of our system. And so for me, this is exciting because number one, I feel more safe to speak my truth. You know, I've been in meetings. Over the past year where people are like, you know, turn off the recording, like, I don't, I don't want to be recorded saying this talking about natural ways to heal cancer and specifically when the, within the cancer space, you know, I was at a meeting where they're talking about sound healing and cancer and talked about how you'll be taken out if you talk about that.

[00:14:43] Dr. Katie Deming: And, and you guys know that I'm not making this stuff up, like, I don't want to be saying all this, because frankly, like, it's not really convenient for me to be saying all this, but this is the truth, like, I have been afraid to [00:15:00] speak my truth and to say what is really going on for fear of being silenced.

[00:15:07] Dr. Katie Deming: And taken out and having my medical license taken away because that is just the nature of the system that we live in. The system is designed to make money. There is collaboration between. The food industry, like the food pyramid that was created that basically since that was introduced in the 80s, we've gotten sicker and sicker.

[00:15:32] Dr. Katie Deming: There's collusion between that industry and the medical industry. If we make you sick with the food, which the food is like the most important thing, then we can give you medicines. That are supposed to fix the problem that was created by industries that are colluding together. And I think this is something that we need to talk about.

[00:15:58] Dr. Katie Deming: And I'm [00:16:00] frankly excited and relieved to see a government official put in place who's willing to talk about these things. And I'm not saying that I'm going to agree with everything that he's doing. And I don't know the whole vaccine thing. I think this is the one piece that everyone is really up in arms about.

[00:16:21] Dr. Katie Deming: And, but for me in science, we need to ask questions. That is the foundation of the scientific method is that we look at the data. We ask questions. And I think when we stop asking questions. Is when we are in real danger and I think we've stopped asking questions and trusting officials with our health and obviously the results are not good.

[00:16:49] Dr. Katie Deming: And so I say to my colleagues in healthcare, to the nurses, to the doctors, to the researchers who are, you know, thinking that [00:17:00] this is all really bad, what's happening with Trump and RFK and, you know, what's going to happen within healthcare, I would just pay attention. That's all I ask you is just pay attention, open your eyes, be open to seeing things from a different lens.

[00:17:19] Dr. Katie Deming: Because. I think most of us in health care know there's something wrong. You know, the suicide rate among physicians is the highest among any professionals. I think maybe lawyers are higher, but the suicide rate amongst physicians is extremely high. That's a problem. Something's wrong. And I will say just from leading health care programs as a health care leader before I left Western Medicine, one of the things that was so interesting, I mean, the things that I did in my career as a leader was a lot of it was getting people to [00:18:00] volunteer their time.

[00:18:01] Dr. Katie Deming: Physicians, nurses, physical therapists, counselors, pharmacists, you name it. Everyone putting in their own time to make the system better and then feeling like you are banging your head against the wall. And I kept saying that like it's almost like they don't want to make this better for the patients.

[00:18:25] Dr. Katie Deming: It's almost like they don't want patients to get better. And I know that that's hard to believe as a physician because. You know, you believe in what you're doing, and I believed in what I was doing too, but there is definitely something wrong with the system. If the system did what it says it's designed to do, which is help people heal, we would be getting healthier, and we wouldn't be spending more and more money Every year and having decreasing life expectancy and epidemic [00:19:00] proportions of chronic illnesses and having young people get cancer.

[00:19:05] Dr. Katie Deming: So there's a problem and I think the one way that's helped me see what's happening. Is when you start to follow the money. So when you see things, when you follow back to who's profiting off of illness, off of us becoming sicker and sicker, you start to see, okay, it makes sense. The system works. Exactly as it was designed, and I think that's it.

[00:19:38] Dr. Katie Deming: I think it works exactly as it's designed. And on a future episode, I'm going to share the things that I've learned about the history of allopathic medicine and actually, how was it designed? What is it designed to do, but I'm going to save that for another day. So this is a shorter episode than usual.

[00:19:57] Dr. Katie Deming: Thank you for bearing [00:20:00] with me while I talk about things that I don't normally talk about, but I think it's really important. And I think we're living in a historic time. And so I'll be waiting and watching as things unfold. And I will share what I think is relevant with my audience, because I think this is important that we talk about these issues.

[00:20:18] Dr. Katie Deming: So I hope you have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing you next week. Take care. Bye bye.
